City Announces Tree Planting Grant Program

The City of Brantford is pleased to announce a funding opportunity available for local commercial and industrial businesses. The Commercial/Industrial Tree Planting Grant Program will help cover the costs of tree planting on any industrial or commercial property within the City of Brantford limits with sufficient space for new trees. The City will reimburse up to a maximum of $500 CAD (inclusive of taxes) to cover 50% of tree planting costs. Eligible expenses include the cost of trees, contract planting of trees, rentals to plant trees and some other supplies.

This program has been developed as part of the City’s Climate Action strategy aimed to increase tree canopy coverage in the City of Brantford. Increased tree canopy coverage reduces greenhouse gas emissions and offers additional benefits such as shade, species habitat, stormwater storage, biodiversity, and improved air quality. The City is excited to work with commercial and industrial businesses to encourage tree planting in the community to improve the overall quality of life and help in the fight against climate change.

In 2019, the City of Brantford declared a Climate Emergency and has set a target to become carbon neutral by 2050. This proposal is part of the climate action work already underway across the community to reach that goal and help businesses and residents transition to a low carbon future.

The tree planting program requires that the proposed trees are species native to this area and that follow-up monitoring is conducted to ensure the trees are thriving in their new location. To apply for this grant program, please download the application form and program guideline. Please submit the required documentation via email to ClimateAction@brantford.ca. A City staff person will contact you to review the application and/or provide written approval via email. The deadline to apply for this funding is December 31, 2021 and application decisions will be provided no later than March 1, 2022. Planting should be conducted between April 15 and May 31, 2022 for best chance of survival of the new trees.
