Cameras are rolling in Brantford

The Economic Development and Tourism Department was pleased to welcome ten productions to the City of Brantford in 2020—a new record for the city, despite a three-month provincial shut down of the industry from mid-March to mid-June. Eight of those productions occurred between August and December, including two commercial shoots and six television productions.

Built in 1922, the Edwardian style Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant provided a stunning backdrop for Murdoch Mysteries. The Brantford Municipal Airport welcomed back the Mayday production and Elle Canada did a commercial shoot in the hangar for the first time. The Dike Trail set the scene for a very mysterious trainwreck in Departure and Downtown Brantford fit the bill for exterior scenes in a Frankie Drake Mysteries episode. The Handmaid's Tale transformed the downtown core for a pivotal scene in their upcoming fourth season, while the historic Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts welcomed the cast and crew from All-Round Champion to film a dance competition.

City staff are thrilled to have welcomed these productions, among others, to Brantford this year during what will be a very memorable year for all of us. Thanks to all the productions for adhering to industry protocols through Ontario's Section 21 and following provincial and local health standards. Filming could have been met with apprehension, but the respect from productions and commitment to safety and rules made all of these new processes feel seamless and did not go unnoticed by the Brantford community or City staff.

We are thankful for another great year of filming, and wish you good health, happiness and success in 2021!
